What is Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic, autoimmune disease that appears on the skin.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, Psoriasis is caused due to the dysfunctioning of Vata, kapha doshas and accumulation of toxins (ama) characterized by dry skin and raised, rough, red areas on the skin covered with fine silvery scales.

What causes Psoriasis :-

  • Excessive intake of yogurt, black gram, seafood, salty and sour food
  • consumption of foodstuffs that cannot be eaten together (Eg: diary products with fish)
  • Irregular food habits
  • Emotional Factor And Stress
  • Hereditary component
  • Accumulation of low potency poisons (Dooshi vishas)
  • Alcohol and tobacco consumption
  • Environmental factors such as trauma, sunlight, infection
  • climatic changes
  • Immune system and genetics.

Symptoms of Psoriasis

The symptoms of psoriasis vary from person to person.

  • Raised, red patches of skin with loose, dry, silvery scales usually on the knees or elbows (even on scalp, face, palms, and soles of the feet.)
  • Dry, cracked skin that may bleed
  • Joint swelling, tenderness, and pain
  • Thickened, pitted or ridged nail
  • Severe irritation on scratching leads to burning sensation.
Apathya
